Privacy Policy

Data Collection & Processing

Dota 2 Smurf Checker processes publicly available data obtained from third-party services, including Steam profile information and Dota 2 match statistics.

To operate the service, we retain public Steam and OpenDota responses (as upstream snapshots), derived player analysis results (scores, verdicts, confidence), optional Account Standing ban/visibility snapshots, and public feed detection events. Retention is bounded by operational TTLs and cleanup policies (typically days to months depending on data type), and exists to display results, reduce third-party API load, and support site features such as feeds and Smurf Status.

We do not collect private Steam data, passwords, payment information, or personal communications. We do not store Steam Web API keys or friend identity lists (friend counts may be stored without friend IDs). We do not sell or rent user data.

Automated verdicts (not Valve)

SmurfCheck scores and badges are automated estimates based on public match statistics. They are not Valve bans, not Valve's private smurf flag, and not official enforcement actions.

Account Standing shows Steam-wide VAC / game / community ban fields from Steam's public ban API. Game bans are Steam-wide and are not attributed to Dota 2 specifically.

User-Provided Data

Users may voluntarily submit public identifiers (such as Steam profiles or match IDs) for analysis, or participate in community features such as voting or reporting.

Any user-provided data is used only to deliver the requested functionality and to improve the accuracy or performance of the service.

Steam Login (OpenID)

Dota 2 Smurf Checker offers optional login via Steam OpenID.

When logging in with Steam:

  • Authentication is handled by Steam; we verify OpenID assertions before creating a session
  • We never receive or store your Steam password
  • We receive only your SteamID and public profile information
  • We do not gain access to private data, inventory, messages, or account actions

Steam login is optional, and core features remain available without logging in. This application uses Steam's official OpenID authentication flow and does not request any special permissions.

Third-Party Services

This application uses the following third-party services:

  • Steam Web API – public Steam profile information and ban status
  • OpenDota API – public Dota 2 match data and statistics
  • Vercel Analytics – anonymized page-view analytics for site reliability

Data retrieved from these services is subject to their respective privacy policies.

Cookies & Sessions

This application may use essential cookies or session storage for authentication (signed session cookie), session management, or security.

No advertising cookies are used. Vercel Analytics may set its own first-party analytics cookies when enabled on the hosting platform.

Data Retention & Removal

Cached or processed data is retained as needed to provide the service, improve performance, or maintain operational integrity, after which it may be automatically removed by retention policies.

If you want analysis or related records about your Steam account removed from this site, contact the operator through the channels published with the deployment and include your SteamID64 so the request can be verified.

Methodology

For how scores and badges are produced, see Methodology.
